Counseling Format

OFFICE SETTING: Under normal circumstances, counseling is provided in a comfortable and private office setting, where information is always held in the strictest of Confidentiality regardless of the setting. During this time, counseling sessions will not be available in this setting until further notice. In the near future, when the office setting will be available,  couples and counselor will be required to wear PPE and remain 6 feet apart to continue following social (physical) distancing for the health and safety of all parties. Hand sanitizer will be provided in the office and restroom for your use. If it is found that social (physical) distancing is not able to be followed, sessions will be offered and provided via Telehealth format.

TELEHEALTH SETTING: Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, subsequent Social (Physical) Distancing, Stay-At-Home, & Shelter-in-Place orders, Counseling will be provided via Telehealth format. This format is always available, and especially for those who, after the recent lifting of orders for certain businesses, prefer to have their sessions in this format for continued safety of all parties to the sessions or for convenience.

This has been found to be a difficult time for many people whether sheltering in place, as an essential worker, or working on the front lines. Counseling is provided to those couples who are suffering within their relationship due to the state of the world right now and anything that may happen in the future. This counseling is always provided in addition to all other counseling mentioned below and on the subsequent pages.

In addition to providing premarital and relationship counseling, Relationship Alliance Counseling is focused on helping couples deal with any issues that hinder the health of their union including the impairment to one’s mental health during the state of the world today. I Have Experience With…

Infidelity and other Betrayals

Infidelity and betrayals play a major role in the breakdown of a relationship. Counseling provides a platform to address the dynamics of the relationship after the infidelity, while guiding the couple toward the understanding of it and healing from it.

Grief and Loss

is a difficult aspect of a relationship that can add stress and strain to the health of the relationship. Counseling is provided to help the couple handle the change in the dynamics of the relationship, guide the partners in supporting one another with the loss, while helping each to process and heal from that loss.

Alcohol and Other Substance Abuse

Inclusion of substance use within a relationship can have devastating effects on the couple’s well-being. Counseling provides a platform to address theses issues and help the partner or couple make a plan to change or improve their situation and relationship.

Mood Disorders & Co-Occurring Disorders

It is important to address these disorders simultaneously in couples therapy for a healthy outcome to the Mental health of the couple and the strength of the relationship.

Trauma and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

Trauma and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder are two disorders that can be overlooked within a relationship. Counseling provides a platform to allow the couple to gain an understanding of the effects of it and the impairment to the relationship, while working to process and heal emotionally within the dynamics of the relationship.

My Philosophy and Approach

Couples Counseling is an important part of mental health today. But, it often gets overlooked due to societal beliefs that physical health is of utmost importance over mental health. Also, there is a stigma about receiving any kind of counseling for mental health, leaving individuals maladjusted to handle even the simple things in life; let alone major responsibilities and relationships.

Couples today struggle to survive within their relationships while the divorce rate continues to remain high. Children continue to suffer in society due to individuals not having the knowledge or guidance to form healthy relationships with stable partners to produce well-adjusted children. These children grow up not understanding or learning how to form healthy relationships with stable partners to produce well-adjusted children.

As you can see, this creates a cycle of unhealthy relationships that continues on through the generations. Add in unstable, unhealthy, maladjusted family relationships, and the dynamics become increasingly worse.

My philosophy involves providing counseling to individuals within a relationship to learn about healthy boundaries, healthy coping skills, and how to have healthy relationships. My focus is on individuals who are connected within a romantic relationship to help them understand the dynamics of their relationships in relation to individual beliefs, personality, strength, and growth areas.

For individuals who are in long-term relationships or marriages, counseling provides a platform to strengthen  their relationships in friendship, conflict management, and creation of shared meaning. Couples learn to replace negative conflict patterns with positive interactions and to repair past hurts.

While it is unrealistic to believe counseling can prevent couples from having problems in their relations, counseling can provide couples with the tools to handle any problems that may arise.

My approach involves providing each couple with an extensive relationship assessment to determine where they stand in relation to understanding the dynamics of the growth and prime areas previously mentioned.

Two of the most important marriage assessments are utilized giving each couple a platform to begin working on their relationship. Prepare-Enrich and The Gottman Method Couples Therapy modalities and interventions are utilized in couples counseling. It is these two assessments that are the foundation of all couples counseling provided at Relationship Alliance Counseling.

These approaches are born from extensive research with wide applicability and with The Gottman Method, the creation of the Sound Relationship House Theory, designed to help couples strengthen their relationships.

A Relationship

is not about having a handsome man or a beautiful looking woman. It’s not about trying to make things perfect because there are no perfect relationships. But it’s finding someone who matches you and would accept the worst of you and will go through everything without giving up on you
